Just a few short months ago a we witnessed a royal occasion bigger perhaps even than that of the wedding of William and Kate.¬†Riding a wave¬†of critical acclaim, Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech surprised many by winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards, as well as getting nods for lead actor and director. With the release of the DVD and Blu-ray, away from the hype and intense media attention, we get an opportunity to reappraise the film and ask the question – was it really the best film of 2010? Prepare For A Marvellous Month Of Movies

Traditionally, January is the cinematic dumping ground. A slow month, it is usually the time when the dregs of the past year are put out to seed. That’s in the US. Here in the UK, we are often a bit luckier. The Autumn months in the States are when the Oscar hopefuls start being released, films which we quite often don’t get on these shores until some time later. That seems to be particularly the case this time around. In the next month, we see UK releases of some of the brightest and best of the Academy Award contenders. It’s going to be a great month.
