Has Thor Struck Hammer Blow In Superhero Wars?

This weekend Thor managed to stay in the top 3 at the box office, adding another $15.5m to its haul, for a total domestic gross so far of $145m. Thor’s box office performance so far isn’t a patch on many of the comic-book adaptations we’ve seen recently, but as a second tier hero played by a virtual unknown, it is a pretty good number. Thor Reviews – Are You Going To Listen To Me, Or Are You Going To Listen To Your Friends?

 Thor was released in UK cinemas this week. Development of the project has been well documented, and the movie has been constantly in the news for one reason or another since it began pre-production. All the way through, i had been underwhelmed by what I had heard about it. I thought Kenneth Branagh was a bold and interesting choice, but worried that his inexperience with modern filmmaking, like CGI and special effects, might hamper the project. Continue reading

Superman Fanboys Kryptonite To Man Of Steel

There was more casting news for The Dark Knight Rises this week. These announcements were met with much speculation, argument, and, most of all, excitement. This is almost in direct contrast to the reception that the casting news for the new Superman film, Man of Steel, has endured. Batman and Superman are DC’s two biggest properties, and are two of the most popular superheroes in history. There is currently much disparity between the treatment the two properties are receiving, with almost overwhelming positivity towards the next Batman film by the fans, and little else but negativity aimed at Zack Snyder’s project.
